Cuba Gooding Jr has been charged in New York over groping allegations.
Gooding surrendered to police in Harlem on Thursday (June 13) to speak to investigators with the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit about an incident that allegedly occurred this past weekend, reports Deadline.
Subsequently, he was charged by the NYPD with one misdemeanour count of forcible touching, and will face arraignment later on Thursday in a city courthouse.
A woman has accused the 51-year-old actor of inappropriate touching on Sunday (June 9) at a popular Manhattan bar. The accuser left the bar to call 911, with investigators now looking for potential video evidence of the event in question.
In response to the groping allegations, Gooding denied any wrongdoing in an interview with TMZ and claimed that there is “a tape that shows what really happened”.
“I trust the system, and let the process speak for itself,” he told the website.
Gooding’s decades-long Hollywood career took off when he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his breakthrough performance as football star Rod Tidwell in Jerry Maguire.
He has also starred in hit Hollywood films As Good as It Gets, American Gangster and Lee Daniels’ The Butler. In more recent years, he earned an Emmy Award nomination for playing O.J. Simpson in American Crime Story and has also appeared in American Horror Story.
