Los Angeles, CA – Only a few days before Nipsey Hussle was gunned down outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles, he shot a video for DJ Khaled’s upcoming single “Higher” featuring John Legend.

In the wake Nip’s death, Khaled has decided to donate all proceeds from the track to the slain rapper’s two young children, Emani and Kross. He made the announcement Instagram on Wednesday (May 15).

“Recently, I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in a million years,” he wrote. “It began when a tragedy robbed the world an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner and my friend, Nipsey Hussle.

“Just days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called ‘Higher.’ After much prayer and reflection; and with the full blessing the Asghedom family, I am sharing that moment with the world.”

Khaled continued, “The very title the song reminds us that vibrating on a ‘Higher’ level was the essence Nipsey’s soul. It is in this spirit, moving forward, preserving his mission that I, my co-writers, producers and label partners are donating 100% all our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross. The Marathon Continues.”

Legend tweeted about his video set experience on March 31, the day Nip’s murder.

“RIP Nipsey,” he wrote. “I just spent Thursday with him filming a video for a beautiful new song we created with Khaled. We filmed in Inglewood, close to where he grew up. He was so gifted, so proud his home, so invested in his community. Utterly stunned that he’s gone so soon.”

“Higher” is included on the prolific producer’s forthcoming Father Asahd album, which is expected to arrive on Friday (May 17) along with the video.
