Emily Atack has spoken out after a theatre she was performing in was put on lockdown over reports of “people with machetes”.
The incident is said to have happened at the end of the I’m a Celebrity star’s debut stand-up performance last night (April 11) at the Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham.
According to reports, theatre-goers were told to remain inside as police dealt with an incident outside, though Emily went back on stage to keep audience members calm.
Taking to Twitter afterwards, the star wrote: “Birmingham.. I can’t tell you how special you made my first show. What a wonderful audience. I laughed (and almost cried) with you all.
“I’m sorry for that scare at the end, how awful?! hope you all got home safe! LOVE YOU ALL!”
Meanwhile, Emily recently told Digital Spy that she was not here for people thinking she was an “airhead”, admitting that it was the biggest misconception they have about her.
“People think that about me because I’m blonde and I’ve got boobs, but I am not stupid – I am absolutely not stupid,” she told us.
“I think we’re all guilty of judging and I look a certain way – I wear a lot of make-up and fake tan. I think as a blonde person with make-up on, you’re automatically the punchline to the joke.
“From being on a panel show, they always need the blonde airhead sat in a corner they can make fun of and I’m here to go, ‘No, we’re not the punchline’. Just because we wear hair extensions and make-up doesn’t mean we’re the punchline for every joke.”
