May 21 Is Now John Singleton Day In L.A.

Los Angeles, CA – The late John Singleton’s hometown Los Angeles is celebrating his legacy with a day named in his honor. Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson Jr. has ficially declared May 21, 2019 as “John Singleton Day.”

“There is not enough that can be said about John Singleton and the pround impact he made in his 51 years life,” Wesson said in a press release. “In a time and in an industry where all the odds were stacked against him, John overcame and became the best at his craft. And more than maybe anyone, he opened people’s eyes to a reality and an experience South Los Angeles that had been overlooked by society.”

He added, “Now in Los Angeles, this day is a time to celebrate John and his legacy. It’s far sooner than we should have to, but there is so much to celebrate.”

Remember John Singleton As A Film & Hip Hop Legend

Singleton passed away last month at the age 51. The cause death was listed as acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage and hypertension.

The acclaimed filmmaker left an indelible mark on Hip Hop as the director such movies as Boyz N The Hood and Baby Boy.

Singleton famously gave Ice Cube the N.W.A rapper’s first acting role, launching a film career that’s spanned more than two decades.
