After almost three decades together, the lads from Take That have admitted that they felt “embarrassed” by their name – and there have been times when they considered changing it to something else.
If the group – celebrating their 30th anniversary next year – could do it all over again, there’s a good chance they would have a completely different name.
“There have been times when we’ve been a bit embarrassed about our name,” Mark Owen told The Sun.
“We used to apologise when we introduced ourselves saying ‘We’re Take That’ and thought we should be called something different.”
Gary Barlow also weighed in, admitting: “It’s a little bit like the Pet Shop Boys – as a name you think it’s stupid.
“When you say the name Take That you do tend to think of us in a stadium or something, but it is a crap name.”
Fortunately, the band decided to keep Take That as a name and didn’t go with other suggestions like “The Cutest Rush” and “Kick It”. They just wouldn’t have been as big, right?
