If Netflix is the Nike the streaming media game then one would probably view Amazon Prime as the British Knights the very same sport. Amazon Studios will be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust to resurrect the franchise that Peter Jackson magnificently brought to life in the early 00’s in the form a movie trilogy that set the standard for Hollywood blockbusters.

Whether or not the new multi-season series will live up to the benchmark that Jackson left for the saga that shook up Middle-Earth remains to be seen. But with the resources available to Amazon you know they’ll pump as much money as necessary to ensure that The Lord The Rings will at least look like a big budget Hollywood film.

No word yet on who’ll be tapped to star in the upcoming series but the acquirement this beloved cultural marvel will be sure to help Amazon Prime’s viewership skyrocket. Who knows, when it’s all said and done AP might end up being the adidas the home entertainment streaming media game.
