Inglewood, CA – 2019 has been a rough year for YG so far. His longtime friend and collaborator Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in March. Then late last month, his affiliate Slim 400 was shot nine times in Compton, although he survived.
Now, the Compton-bred rapper is looking at more legal trouble after the LAPD discovered his bulletpro Cadillac Escalade was reportedly used in an ficer-involved shooting. According to ABC7, the vehicle is registered to Keenon Jackson, YG’s government name.
Detectives initially responded to a report a reckless DUI suspect on Wednesday night (July 3) but realized a shooting had occurred. A man, who police believe was an innocent bystander, was killed at the scene. Lt. Derrick Alfred said it appeared the victim was simply caught in the crossfire.
A pursuit ensued shortly after the shooting and eventually ended in Inglewood. Sheriff’s ficials said the suspects fired at deputies during the chase and at the sheriff’s helicopter. It’s unclear if YG was in the vehicle at the time the incident.
A patrol car’s windshield was riddled with bullets. One deputy suffered minor injuries after being shot during the pursuit. He was quickly treated and released.
At least one person was detained, while another suspect remains at large.
YG is currently juggling a lawsuit stemming from an alleged Las Vegas beatdown in May 2018. A judge recently ruled he wouldn’t have to speak on his Bloods affiliation or his criminal past in an upcoming hearing.
